Last week religious cleric Dr. Abullah Muhaysini, who is a religious advisor in the rebel umbrella organization Jaysh Al Fath, was targeted by the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). Three others were targeted as well in the same document. OFAC stated: “Specifically, OFAC designated four key al-Nusrah Front leaders – Abdallah Muhammad Bin-Sulayman al-Muhaysini, Jamal Husayn Zayniyah, Abdul Jashari, and Ashraf Ahmad Fari al-Allak – pursuant to Executive Order (E.O.) 13224, which targets terrorists and those providing support to terrorists or acts of terrorism.”
The accusation states, “Abdallah Muhammad Bin-Sulayman al-Muhaysini was designated for acting for or on behalf of, and providing support and services to or in support of, al-Nusrah Front.”
Dr. Muhaysini categorically denies having joined Jabha Fath Sham (Nusra) or any other group. In addition to that he denies any wrongdoing. Many are anticipating that this categorization by the US government is merely a prelude to an assasination attempt. Dr. Muhaysini said: “I say it doesn’t matter if assasination is the intent or not, we are the people of a just cause and will continue our struggle until we are successful if Allah wills.”
Dr. Muhaysini has been in Syria for the past 3 years and has been known to have good relations with all rebel factions, and is credited with being a key driving force behind Jaysh al Fath’s breaking of the siege around Aleppo this past summer.
